I have a Lancaster AK purchased several years ago and I am wanting to convert it from a fixed stock to a side folding metal type (not the wire stock like on the AMD).  Wanting to know the best sources for parts and if there is something out there better looking than the ACE folding block plus one of their modular stocks?  I'm looking to add one that is similar to the new Arsenal offering or one from an AKS 74?  Any direction you can point me is greatly appreciated.

unless you have the right equipment and can do your own builds, you'll be better off selling it and buying what you want.  You have to completely disassemble the rifle, weld in some holes and then rebuild it with parts costing around $250 if you can find them.  While you can machine the front trunion axle hole without pulling the barrel, it is comparatively high risk.  Trunion is very hard, drill bits wander, and I've seen enthusiastic, but unskilled tinkerers drill into the barrel.

Other option is to buy the stock, a Romy G kit, and an NDS1-KP receiver and build it up from scratch - still less work than converting one already built.

Thank you for the info.  I have been wanting a 74 anyway, so I guess my next purchase will be a 74 with a side folder.

It usually helps to read the guy's post before answering.

If you had, you'd know that he didn't want the ACE, or wire, but an AK-74 type.

As far as supplies go, private sales in the EE, KVAR, or Rusmilitary are all I can think of.
However, attempting it yourself may be tough unless you are real handy. It can be done with a dremmel, but I didn't attempt it until I was proficient with my milling machine.
It is fun to tackle something yourself, and if the usual mindset of "don't try that" bothers you, then by all means go for it.
Like they say, it's only metal, it's not magic
