How can you tell what parts on an AK47 are made in the USA?
The rifle was new in 2008 when it was sold. It has been sitting in storage ever since.(till I bought it) It would be nice to know what to look for so I know what is or isn't compliant. |
| If it doesnt read "USA" then it wasnt made here, right? All kidding aside, you're not responsible for any parts changed prior to it being in your possession, but if ever questioned it would be far easier to prosecute once you admitted that you did change out some parts. If anyone's ever been prosecuted for non-compliance, I'm all ears. |

I get having to obey the law even if it's stupid, but the thing that pisses me of more than anything else 922 related is when some asshole starts the "What's the parts count on that?" when someone posts a pic or has an item for sale. I can see an interested, serious buyer asking the question in an IM, but the fucktards that feel the need to wave their fingers and bitch out people publicly in pic threads (the Saiga 12 forum has a bunch of them) are a pack of whiny stupid shits who need to come out of Mommy's basement once in awhile instead of pretending to be the Junior ATF compliance squad of the interwebz |

Avoiding turning this thread into a 922r war.....
to answer the op's question, most parts such as tapco will be stamped USA, and if not, you can research the part, to find where it was made. Pictures and more info help. And it seems most experts here can determine where a part or stock originated from. |

There is some confusion about 922r and some people don't know anthing about it. You often see firearms on the EE and other sights that have had parts swapped out but aren't fully meeting 922. I know that nobody has ever been prosecuted for it but I'd hate to be the first, so I did the full conversion on mine. If somebody else doesn't want to make sure they have all the parts then that's on them, but hopefully they are making an informed decision and understand the laws and not just relying on internet rumors. Even if the laws are moronic. |

I didn't mean to derail the discussion with my rant. It's just be a pet peeve of mine for a long time. Sorry if I went off track. Most US parts are marked, although not all are. I've got cheapo stock sets which lacked markings of any kind other than the bag they came in.
And yes, I do abide by the law. Even if it means I have to use the occasional fugly or substandard part. |

AMEN BROTHER. I'm all for helping somebody out who asks a question about 922, & who needs help when converting a MAK 90 to pistol grip/buttstock config. However nothing pisses me off more, than when someone posts a photo of a gun they just purchased at a gunshow, & someone asks "what are the US parts" when the proud new owner hasn't asked a question about 922. GARY N4KVE

I know that I can have no more then 10 parts on this rifle that are of foreign mfg. 922 is pretty str8 forward about that. What I am wanting to know is how your supposed to know what parts aren't of foreign mfg on a new rifle. It is a WASR 10/63 that was originally purchased in the summer of 2008. It has matching numbers on the bolt, the bot carrier, front trunion, gas tube, dust cover and under the front sight. It sat in the box until I bought it last week. It still has the cosmoline packing grease on it. The oil can and sling as well as the bayonet were still wrapped up in the brown paper and were tied to the bottom of the box. The 2 mags that were included both have stickers on them saying that using a mag of foreign mfg could cause compliance problems with 922.
The barrel is chrome lined. the stock has to be original Romanian(its rough as hell and soaked in cosmoline)I have pulled the mags apart and there are no markings on the floor plate nor the plastic follower. I field stripped the rifle and there are no markings on the gas piston, slashed compensator or FCG. I also pulled the plastic grip that had no markings. CAI on their site says that all the compliant parts they use are marked with the letter "c" and that they will not and can not tell you what parts are or are not compliant on any given rifle or series of rifles,But they say that all rifles are compliant when they ship them. So, how am supposed to know what is what?(I know that numbered parts are original and therefore foreign. the dust cover and gas tube don't count as foreign) |

The 2 mags that were included both have stickers on them saying that using a mag of foreign mfg could cause compliance problems with 922. A WASR should have a US made pistol grip which is made of black plastic and marked with a small "c", a US made fire control group (usually marked "TAPCO "on the hammer and trigger) and a US made gas piston which is made of stainless steel (foreign made gas pistons are hard chrome plated). If Century replaced the piston will be rigidly mounted in the carrier. If the Romanians installed it, the piston will be slightly loose. Those 5 parts are enough to comply with 922(r) AS LONG AS the muzzle device is tack welded to the front sight base. If the device is NOT tack welded, it should be US made and should be marked US. I have not seen a WASR that required the use of US made magazine parts to be compliant, but then Century doesn't send them all to me for inspection. |
