Hey Gang, I know next to nothing about AK's But have decided I Need one.. I am considering one of the Polish Tantals that are floating around everywhere as a start, But do not care for the side folding stock/ What needs to be done to replace the side folder with a standard wood or plastic stock? Thanks in advance for your thoughts...

While the Tantals were/can be nice, you need to exercise caution with the current ones.
First, unless YOU buy the kit* and have it built, it's just like all the other kit guns: who knows what's in it and even though you don't pay a lot, you may not even get what you pay for. It will have a ? receiver. Second, if you are going the kit gun route, make sure it has an original barrel; original barrels are no longer imported so if it doesn't have an original barrel it has a ? barrel to go with the ? receiver. Third, one of the unique features of the Tantal is the thing you want to remove: the wire side folder. If that's the case, why bother? Get a different AK variant that has what you DO like on it. *Parts kits with original barrels are pretty rare now. |
