| How do you open an can of 5.45? |
|
Hammer and chisel or a dremel with cutoff wheel and *extreme* caution... I've seen it done that way, but I wouldn't do it.
If you're not in a hurry, contact AIM or classic arms or any of the other surplus dealers and buy an opener. It should only be a couple of bucks. |
| If you have an angle grinder you can use it on the top "lip" of the can. The part that sticks up higher than the lid. When you grind down, it will separate, do it all the way around and then the lid will be totally loose. I will caution you to be careful, but you'd have to be pretty dumb to mess this up. |

I have opened many Soviet Spam cans with this method and it is by far the easiest, fastest way to handle them. Also, you end up with a nice metal bin for parts, relaoding components, etc. when its empty. Besides, I have a friend who collects Cold War stuff who keeps printed can lids. |
