Do you mind if I ask why you would buy a bull pup and then convert it into a standard AK?

Did you have buyers remorse?

Because you basically built a nice WASR and it must have cost you a lot of money.

Century does a good job on these Bull Pups but you could have built a better AK if you had started with a Saiga

I just wasn't digging the bullpup. Thought I would like it, but I didn't. As far a converting a Saiga, that's a little beyond my capability and/or desire right now. Removing then adding rivets, cutting into heat treated sheet metal. Maybe one day when I have a drill press. When all was said an done, this rifle after being converted cost me about 460. If I can now sell the bullpup kit for 60 I will be back down to what I originally paid for it.

If you have all the parts and if they are not damaged I'll buy the kit from you for $60 :)

Best reason to stay away from a bullpup design for the AK : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QgztHGBnfAk

My Pups have lasers and red dot sights, I don't even have to get check weld to fire them

What does the above have to do with anything?

You still need to get your face close enough to see the dot, right? A laser is not a replacement for sights and if thats all your using to practice with then you need to start practicing with irons. If your laser or red dot goes down then what? The real question is why are you not getting a proper cheek weld?Your head just hovers next to or above the rifle while you are firing?

Every weapon made could have that same thing happen, including the factory made bul pup rifles.  I don't know the details on that video, but he appeared to be unhurt and it seemed that everything but the top cover stayed with the rifle.  Would he have been hurt any worse with his cheek over the top cover?  I don't want to test it, but I bet it wouldn't have made much difference.

True, but AKs do have a slightly higher chance of firing out of battery than some.

I believe it would have been worse, maybe much worse.  There was quite a bit of force behind the cover.  With the traditional stock the cover basically just caught his cap and the gases blasted his face.  Don't know where the case shards may have gone.  If his face had been over the cover, like on a bullpup, his face would have taken the full force of the blast and shrapnel could have gotten under his glasses.  If this had occured in a defensive "bump in the night" scenario would he have even had glasses on?

While the bull pup design is compact it does have a few disadvantages, this being just one.  I don't personally feel comfortable with my face directly over the action, but that's just me.

Seriously though, if y'all are ditching that kit, let us know so we can all fight for it on the EE.

I dont really like bull pup's, but out of my thousands of rounds through my AK's and many others I have yet to see this happen. If you like the idea of the bull pup then use it.

In the video, they are over seas. I have seen other videos where arabs are making bullets in caves with just hammers and a few small tools. There is no telling what ammo that they were using, it could have been way over charged or a variety of other problems. Just because you seen onemalfunction of an AK doing that doesnt mean they are prone to doing that.

Good point.  It could have been some hand made ammo of dubious origins, but I guess we'll never know the true cause.  And to be honest I don't know what the likelyhood of a kaboom in an AK is.  But the floating firing pin design has been known to cause slam fires.  Slam fires do increase the chances on the gun firing out of battery.  Bullpups are cool in a way but I just feel that their disadvantages outweigh their advantages, in general and regardless of type.  Adding in my own discomfort with the idea of placing my face directly over the action, and they are just not too attractive to me, particularly the AK variety.  Many rifles are designed in such a way that the forces of a kaboom aren't directed straight up into the shooters face.  AKs aren't of this design so for me they are not the best candidate for a bullpup even if I wanted one.

+1 I agree with you

Also I kinda proved my point, I dont like them and you dont like them so we both dont have them (assuming you dont). But If I was givin the chance to fire one without using my ammo I wouldnt refuse

It will be a while

I have to finish my other 7.62 bull pup and then I have to convert a Saiga-410 to the same bull pup configuration.

Then  I have to sell my current S-12 Race Gun and I have to try to get at least $1800 for it to cover the parts and labor (my labor isn't included in that amount).  The gunsmith that built it, shortened the gas system and now the gas block sits right where the trigger is located on the bull pup.  There is no way I can make this kit work on my race gun, so I'm going to sell it an start from scratch.
