I bought 2 of those AKU-94 Bull Pups from J&G for $400 each with the intent of totally reworking the kit to make it more solid and accessory friendly.
With the exception of the Magpul Back Up Sights, a holo/red dot optic and accessories such as a light, I'm done with my first one It went from this: http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p298/BobaDebt/Props/Bull%20Pup/AKBullpupRight.jpg To this: http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p298/BobaDebt/Props/Bull%20Pup/762BullPup002.jpg http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p298/BobaDebt/Props/Bull%20Pup/762BullPup001.jpg http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p298/BobaDebt/Props/Bull%20Pup/762BullPup003.jpg The quad rail is a custom modified combination of 2 different UTG Rails. I used the bottom section from their 7.62 Saiga Rail and the middle and top sections from their 12 Gauge Saiga Rail. The bottom needed a lot of modification to make it work but the top only had to be cut at an angle and shortened to match the modified rear sight. I removed the top of the rear sight to provide a secure contact point to the back section of the top rail. I added a modified section from a UTG "13 Slot 1 Inch Riser" to the forward lower section of the 7.62 Rail. This provided a secure place to mount the stubby vertical grip. The bull barrel is a piece of 1/2 electrical conduit, this is just a sleeve to cover up the grooves that used to retail the AK front sight post. The Bird Cage Flash Hider secures it in place. The Shoulder Pad is made from a custom cut aluminum plate that is secured to the original butt stock with 2 screws and some washers. This gun is awesome to handle. It feels great in your shoulder and the grips are not too close together. When you hold this you get a rock solid balanced feel that just provokes attitude. No one that handles it can believe I made the modifications, I have to show then the unmodified rifle. I can't wait to build my other other one. As soon as I get my Magpul BUSs I'm taking it to the range, I'm sure it will shoot great |

Looks sweet as hell but after seeing the kaboom ak video there is no way I would put my face ON the top cover. Beallright.... That's why we were given 4 cheeks, two eyes, two lips, two ears, and lots of teeth. He knew that if our Bullpup AK KB'd..... we would need extra parts. It's all in the design. |

LOP? Looks much better, I don't like the added recoil pad...that is just me. +1 Long LOP makes me tend to turn my whole body instead of just flicking the weapon to the left. I like things tucked in close.... better manuverability. I'll take one in Warsaw length.... |

First of all thanks for all the nice comments

You answered all the questions but mine Length of pull please. It has an 18" LOP which sounds crazy but it dosen't feel that long. The rifle dosen't feel the same as a normal rifle when it's shouldered. The grip position gives the shooter a very positve feel that the rifle is completly under your control. |

Thats what i was afraid of. I know a little extra LOP on a bullpup can be accepted easilly. I am 6' with long ass arms, but have gotten very used to a shorther 13"ish LOP. My MSAR STG is about 15" but due to the pup style, it doesn't seem long. I think 18" would not be acceptable for me...maybe others would be all about it.
Looking at your pics...here's what would make it ideal for me. (just me, I am not picking on your project at all...just constructive criticism) 1. Somehow extend the railed handguard out another 3-4".....it would just look better for me. 2. Ditch the double rail and spacer for the vert grip.....add the grip back on out a bit on the above mentioned longer forearm. 3. Cut the tang on the back of the receiver....use an Ace "cut the tang" receiver block, cut off the rear of the conversion stock piece and attach to the rear of the ace block.....making the LOP about 2" less. Just my $0.02.......again, not bashing...just brain storming. |

Just my $0.02.......again, not bashing...just brain storming. Well you must have little midget arms I'm only 5'8" and I love the way this gun feels when I shoulder it. There hasn’t been a single person that has held this gun that didn’t crack an immediate smile and which elvoled into that evil grin you get when you realize you're holding a serious weapon. To extend the rail you would either have to manufacture a completely custom rail or you would have to weld 2 of the modified UTG rails together. Either prospect would more then double the cost of this gun. I was able to build this for less the $600 which, in my opinion is acceptable fro this type of rifle. Spending $800 to a $1000 would be a disproportionate amount of money to spend on a 7.62 caliber bull pup. You also have to realize the if you extend this out pass the gas system you will have to create some type of adapter for the front of the rail to mount to. In my design, the middle section of the S-12 rail has 2 bolts that apply pressure to the gas block and the rear reinforced area of the gas tube. I originally had a normal sized vertical grip mounted to the rail but my hand would slip up in between it and the trigger guard which was painful http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p298/BobaDebt/Props/Bull%20Pup/Progress014.jpg The 1" riser and stubby vertical grip was the perfect solution to this issue. Not only does it look better but it also allows you to hold the vertical grip without having to bear down on it to maintain control. Originally I was going to cut part of the original butt stock off and attach my butt pad assemble closer to the rifle but the closer I got to the receiver the more awkward it felt. |

Here are some new images
With a set of Magpul BUS, a light and magazine http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p298/BobaDebt/Props/Bull%20Pup/Progress018.jpg The right side http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p298/BobaDebt/Props/Bull%20Pup/Progress017.jpg The 6" sight radius is going to suck I might just go with a back up front sight post with a halo style optic. |
| You could put a Primary Arms Micro Dot on the space you have with his AR riser and use those sights. I really like what you have done. I do a lot of custom things and know how long it takes to figure things like what you have done out. If you want to get away from the riser you have your front grip on you might try a grip that is smaller around like a Knights grip and round off the front of your trigger guard. |

I'm finally done. I'm going to start the mods on my other gun now that the first is done. If anyone is interested I can post a step by step build thread explaining how I built this. If anyone is serious about wanting to build one of these I can help you get the quad rails from UTG and I could even do the rough mods, you would have to fine tune them to your own rifle. Here is a comparison of the original rifle and my version Original: 27" long / 17" LOP / 7 pounds unleaded Mine : 29" long / 18" LOP / 8.6 Pounds http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p298/BobaDebt/Props/Bull%20Pup/Progress019.jpg |

The cost and parts i used are listed in this thread in various posts.
BUT To sum it up I bought $400 factory built bull pup and added about $250 in parts to it which included the Sightmark Scope. The build thread will not be very fast paced but it will be thorough. |

The only thing I would add to your design is an extended mag catch for reloads. |

I shot the bull pup today.
I had 2 mechanical issues 1. The disconnector does not reset correctly. I have to push the bull pup trigger forward to get it to pop the disconnector up to release the hammer. I don’t know if this is something I can fix of if I have to send it to the manufacturer 2. The Bull Pup trigger gets HOT. Someone on another forum said they ground part of the trigger linkage so that it didn’t sit up against the barrel. I may do this once I get the disconnector issue fixed Now for a report on the sights and scope. I was shooting off hand with no support at 15 yards. With the Magpul PTS Back Up Sights I put 40 rounds into an 8" group, I didn’t even have to adjust them. I just aimed at the top of the bullseye With the Sightmark scope and the laser I put 40 rounds into a 4" group. Over all I'm happy with the gun. Once I get my laser bore sight I'll get serious with some sand bags but today was just a quick session to get used to the rifle. |
| It could be the problem. I would make sure the trigger is not binding on the receiver cut out at the bottom where the trigger would normally stick out, then check the linkage wire from the trigger to the trigger group to make sure it is not binding. I would then clean and lube the trigger group and the wire where it slides past the magazine. The one I had years ago was catching on a burr in this area and would not reset all the time either. Seeing yours makes me wish I still had mine. |

I couldn’t get a stock sling to work so I made a simple one from one of my UTG slings
The rifle hangs from my shooting shoulder and lays right against my body. I have it adjusted so the pistol grip is right at my hand http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p298/BobaDebt/Props/Bull%20Pup/Progress040.jpg It also stores well: http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p298/BobaDebt/Props/Bull%20Pup/Progress041.jpg |

I was able to get the rifle to 100% reliability during dry firing. I'll test it at the range tomorrow.
To get the safety to work I had to reduce the length of the tail by about 1/32' and I had to notch the right side. To get the disconnector to work I had to replace most of the FCG and Hammer Group with Tapco parts and I used the spring from my S-410. This got it to about 50% reliability. Then I had to polish all of the contact points which seems to have completely fixed it. I'll know more tomorrow once I actually shoot it I contacted Century to see if they will compensate me for the parts. It will be interesting to see how they handle this. |
|
I do hope you're planning to put the rifle back to stock condition before shipping it to them. If not, you may not get your rifle back in the condition you ship it, and they may say that your mods have voided the warranty. They can also elect to replace rather than repair, in which case you'll be right back where you started... minus all of your parts.
It really is always best to fully function test a firearm before doing any modifications. Good luck. |

I'm going to put it back to factory condition. I want to put the quad rail system on my other AK Bull Pup so I have one working rifle while the other is being fixed.
I did shoot 1 full mag though each rifle before I did anything. When I relaized that one of them had a disconnector issue I posted to a couple forums and a few people said I had to loosen the rifle up and a few said it was an easy fix. However, I didn't do any repairs until Century replied to my email with some tips to get it working. |
