So I thought my Ak was doing good til I took it to the range today, It was firing fine but the last two times Ive gone Ive have misfires where the firing pin strikes the primer and the round doesnt go BOOM! The first time I thought it was the ammo, until I put the striked round back in the mag and refired, and they fired! My guess is the firing pin is to short. Is that a good assumption? Where should I start? Thanks

EDIT: I took some pics of the bolt and firing pin, I noticed a bur on the back end of the firing pin, and I was wondering if you all think this may be the reason it is miss firing? Also, I added a pic of a casing with the primer struck, to me it looks a little shalow, but i dont know! Let me know what you all think.

P.S. sorry about the quality of the pics, my camera was not charged and all I had was my Iphone!!

That's a scary assumption. A longer firing pin might allow your weapon to slamfire and go full auto.

What kind of ammunition are you using? I buy a lot of military surplus, and those are hard primers. Every now and again one doesn't fire on the first try, but generally does on the second. Using Wolf I've never had a failure to fire.

I would bet it's the ammo.  If it was the firing pin, it would happen more often.  Also, if it's happening towards the end of your session, maybe the gun itself needs a cleaning.

I forgot to mention that I have switch ammo brands and it does the same thing, and it is doing it about 3-4 times in a magazince loaded with 20 rounds. It was doing it quite a bit.

The ammo was Wolf 122 grain, FMJ The black box

Is this a Kit Built AK by an amatuer?

That primer looks like it's flowing around the firing pin , which COULD mean a Headspace problem.

I believe his rifle is a WASR.

And edogg, weren't you having FTF problems with this same rifle a while back?  I can't remember the outcome of that problem but I think I remember you having a thread about it and getting a lot of suggestions of things to check.  What did that end up being?

clean the rifle really well then see what happens. if it still does it try a new firing pin there cheap enough.
