I recently picked up a WASR package for $275.  It came with a Tapco stock that I am not a huge fan off.  I would like to put a side folding triangle stock on it.

I am not a AK47 expert and have no clue on what is all involved in adding a side folding stock.  Are there certain brands I should look at?  I believe that the trunion would need to be removed and another installed.  Any recommendations on vendors who do this work?

What would the total cost be?

An Ace folder would most likely be your best bet. They install fairly simply.

It's going to cost you about $400 parts and labor.  Best bet is to just get a rifle in the configuration you want and sell the WASR.

Install requires a different rear trunion and the rear of the receiver needs some milling done to it.  It's a non-reversible install.  Once you go to the triangle sidefolder, you are stuck with it (the polymer sidefolder will fit too).  Regular fixed stocks won't go on the rifle anymore.

Any of the common AK builders can do the install.  Investment Grade Firearms, Red Jacket Firearms, Piece of History Firearms, Overland, etc.

Finding the parts needed might be tricky though.  They will cost you at least $200.

+1

The other way to do it is to replace the receiver with one that already has the right cut outs and install the correct rear trunnion.

It really ain't with it to do the conversion when good new left side folders go for $650 or so. BSW

Damn

O well,  I guess I will just get a fixed stock.

Thanks for the help.

ace side folders or the wire folder requires no mod to the gun.

Go with the ace folder. riflestocks.com. Easy to assemble. Locks up tight. Congrats on the rifle.

There is one option that the others have not shared with you....probably because it not "authentic" enough.

But I have an aftermarket triangle side folder on a Romanian G and, if you don't mind a longer length-of-pull, it's quite nice.

You might want to check it out before you give up on your quest.  It requires no modification to your receiver or trunion, and you can swap it out yourself in about 5 min.

Here's a link to the site.

Here's a pic

If you wish to go the authentic route, and keep the Warsaw length, then get yourself one of the Romanian side folders, found here, for a fraction of the price. (scroll about 2/3 of the way down to find it)
