So I have been on the hunt for a WASR on the cheap. I found one online but thers one problem, the thing has an ATI Strikeforce collapsible folder on it.

I would like to replace the ATI stock set with something from IWD.

My question is, was there a modification made to the rear trunnion tang and screws to allow the ATI stock to fit or is the original two screw design still intact?

Am I gtg just slapping a stamped wood stock set on it? Or am I limited to using something like a romy wire folder?

ETA: Pics of WASR

Any stamped non-yugo stock set should fit.

ETA: That is a single stack gun, FYI...

Thanks Chris for the stock info.

Owner said it was double stack but your right, after looking closer there's no dimples. Guess I can pass on this one.

Thanks again

WASRs do not have "dimples" even if the magazine well is opened up to accept standard magazines.

Yes, it's not the dimples you're looking for.

The length of the mags and their apparent width as well as the apparent width of the magwell (and the width of the metal on each side of the magwell) give that rifle away as a single stack.

I have no experience with the stock on it, but judging from the look of the HUGE hinge I'd say that the tang is intact.  Personally, I wouldn't let the single stack aspect steer me away if the deal is otherwise good enough.  All WASRs come into the US as single stack guns and are then converted here in the US by Century.  If this gun is a single stack then that simply means Century hasn't butchered it.  I would much rather buy a single stack and modify it myself so that I know it was done right.  The only bad part is that this gun is probably not 922r compliant as it sits, if converted to accept milsurp mags.  The good news is that with just the addition of the IW set and a Tapco G2 FCG you'd be good to go.  There is a tutorial on here that explains how to do the conversion, so if you're handy with tools and have a dremel it's not that hard.

Two things Century does wrong on these guns is they sometimes do a poor job of opening the mag well, resulting in excessive mag wobble, and they always WELD the new gas piston to the BC instead of properly riveting them in place.  The welded piston is the main problem I have with them, personally.  But, since they didn't modify this gun it should have the original piston in place, and if you use the above listed parts you won't have to change the piston.

How much is he asking?

I'm waiting back for a response from the seller. He said $375 and I came back asking for a quote without the ATI stock set. I think that ATI set retails for around $80.00 or so.

If he comes back with an awesome deal minus furniture I might consider taking on the conversion/compliance task, all in all though I'd rather just get a double stack off the bat.

ETA

I won a scratch off lottery ticket the other day, after paying some bills I got $400 left that I thought I would try to pick up a WASR or SAR1/2 with. Maybe I'll continue my lucky streak and find a good deal for around 4 bills

Yeah, I'd say if you want a double stack WASR, Classic has a good deal starting about half way down the page where it says ROMANIAN AK- MV SEMI AUTO RIFLE HERE  You'll save quite a bit on furniture and parts. I've see the WASR wood refinshed to look pretty nice.
