Tried using the search couldn't find a topic to post this in.  Did a review/tabletop of the Dublin charging handle system.

Let me know what you think.

While I like to see people try new things, this isn't something I would want.

Maybe I'm just used to the original design, so I don't look for ways to get around it.

It's a cool idea.  I think it would be great for someone who is set on the operating style of HK rifles.

But after watching a different video of one of the Dublin guys demonstrating it.. he wasn't reloading any faster than someone who has practiced a lot with the original design.  Reaching under the gun for the regular charging handle isn't any slower than reaching out in front of it for the Dublin one.

Being able to lock the bolt open is nice, though.

Neat idea, but I foresee much debris or other nasty things getting into the piston rod area/ gas block; and to me, that's not the best thing. YMMV.

not really enough energy to hurt you.

Oh yes there is. On the backstroke the carrier could easily break your thumb if you position it right (or should I say wrong!)

I also really love how the new charging handle is threaded into a piece of thin wall tubing with complete engagment for like one thread.

Yea, still a need idea I guess. Doubt it is worth 110$ + S&H, but its good to see new AK parts being produced.

It fucking sucks. I bought one when it first came out, it didnt fit my rifle. I emailed the guy and he told me.... oh your rifle isnt on the list of rifles it fits..(the list said all AK47 variants, not anymore). I asked if i could return it and he said no, but i'm welcome to send the tube back so he can grind it down to fit or I can do it myself. I did it myself... it still fucking sucks. Its inconvenient, uncomfortable, and not very smooth. I never took it out to fire it because i was so pissed. Its just sitting in my safe. as a reminder to not buy stupid shit.
I wish I could get my money back.

there is another option i wish i would have seen though... lemme go find it....

found it

All it is is a new top cover if you want left side charging. Says it doesnt interfere with side scope mounts, doesnt affect disassembly, the handle folds down and you could have your Ultimak on there too.

Good solution to left-hand charging with dovetail mounted optics.

Lets us righties keep our grip with our strong hand while changing mags and running the bolt, and doesn't preclude use of a PK-AS or POSP like the Lightning Bolt does.

I'd try one out.  Probably wouldn't use it on all my rifles, but I might use it on one.

Some of us righties just rotate the rifle slightly so the charging handle is up and charge like that, or some even reach under to charge the rifle.

That's the way I usually do it as well, but I've always found the reach-under method to be awkward and provide less than great leverage.  And when you're running any kind of mounted optic above the receiver (POSP, Kobra, etc), you have to tilt the gun waaay over to reach across the top.

Po-ta-to, po-tah-to, I suppose.

Can the AK be improved? I'm sure there are a few strap ons that may give you a slight advantage but I dont think this is one of them.

hold the bolt closed on your ak with your thumb and fire it.  i promise you will be ok.

For every action there is an equal or opposite reaction Think of how much the gun recoils...it wouldn't hurt your thumb that bad. Also if you got shot by the round and 100% of the energy was dumped into you it would be the same amount of energy as the recoil.

Hahaha. Looks like a good way to burn the SHIT out of yourself to me. Run a couple mags through then when you rack that thing your finger skin is going forward with the handle.

Nosir, I don't like it.

There's a difference though, you can hold the bolt forward while firing, yes, that's because you're preventing the bolt from unlocking itself and the bolt is absorbing the recoil more than your hand. HOWEVER, after it's already unlocked and has gained some momentum you better keep your fingers out of the way.
