I am going to get my first AK here in a week or two and wanted to see what everyone thinks about the WASR under folders. I like the way that the wood furniture WASR's look but I also think I want to get an under folder for its ease of movement and portability. I am not real worried about accuracy, I have an AR-15 for that but I do want a good solid gun and wanted to make sure the underfolder would fit the bill. Please give me your opinion of romy uf's.

| Cabelas here has one, that I finger everytime I am in there. Whie I have never shot a underfolder, the ergonomics does seem rather odd to me. I may pick it up, as I just sold a SKS and need a ComBlock blaster to fill the void. PLus it is only 399 with bayo and 4 mags. HMMMMMMM |

The WASR under-folders are surprisingly high quality for the cost. Mine had very little folder up/down wobble, maybe 1/8 inch (in other words, it locks up pretty tight). It has the correct under-folder trunnion, whereas, a lot of Norinco under-folders just go into the receiver, without a UF trunnion.
Front sight was straight, and it's as accurate as any other AK. Interestingly, the UF arms are milled instead of stamped/riveted. I thought that was a nice touch. Definitely sturdier than some other UF's I've seen. No mag dimples (if you care about dimples), but on mine, there is no mag wobble at all. A Romanian Side Folder or Russian Poly/triangle side folder has better ergonomics, but if you want an under-folder, the WASR is the best $400 you can spend. |
