Can someone explain how an Ultimak mounts?  From what I've seen, it attaches directly to the barrel.  However, this means that it would be very inconvenient to remove when cleaning, which is every time I shoot since I use corrosive ammo.

Also, is there one Ultimak for all AKs, or is there one specific to the  '47 and '74 (I have a '74)?

I'm really trying to stay traditional with my AKs, but the Ultimak/Bushnell TRS-25 combo looks highly attractive.

It has U shaped clamps that go around the barrel. You will not/should not remove it everytime you shoot. It is chrome lined, and water should clean it fine.

It works on Bulgarian and Russian 74's, Romanian's have skinnier barrels and require an extra part (insert) to make it fit.

I just mounted one on my Saiga Arsenal SGL31 gun and put a cheap Konus on it (very similar to the Bushnell Aimpoint clone) and will shoot it this week end, range report to follow.  I will get it hot and see what happens.

Looks sick on the gun, not too much "bling" just right for an AK

Kind of a Chinese puzzle to attach. Put clamps in place around barrel and then install lower HG. Then you can wriggle the clamps to where they need to be and bolt on the Ultimak tube.
I agree. Pretty slick.

I don't know that they are chrome lined though. Just anodized alloy construction.

I just use a shotgun 12 gage swap to clean after a range trip.  Simple. Just shove it right through the rear sight block and into the tube.

They are aluminum and are not (and cannot) be chrome lined.

+1 on the shotty brush for the tube. that's the way i did my AMD, then about every 4 or 5 trips i took it off for a GOOD cleaning.

Don't worry about the corrosive ammo, it can't rust.
I simply spray windex down the barrel, which in turn rides up into the gas block, getting them salts.

Close to 2k through my rifle with the ultimak on it, using the above method, the inside of the front gas block is nice and zero rust.

The ultimak + TRS is a solid combo.
