I didn't see the world's first assault rifle, I saw an STG.

From reading online, the Federov was used during the Russian revolution, and a little bit in WWI and WWII. Of course, they were only used in small numbers.

Intermediate power ammo didn't exist yet, though he was working on it. He used what was at hand, 6.5mm Arisaka being the best compromise they had at the time while he worked on an intermediate round.

The StG44 was the first that saw issue in large numbers (unit wide) but there were several thousand Federovs in service through the 1915-1930s and they saw combat.
