How much money do I need to spend to buy a good AK?  Where should I look and what should I stay away from? Thanks!

all AK's are good ones!! LOL  the $1000 ones are great and the $500 are too with a little tweeking. it mainly depends on what you want to do w/ it. you pay the extra $ for the fit and finish of the rifle not so much for the function. not sure where to look in CAN. ( my opinion )

Yep. At one extreme, the WASR 10/63s are currently selling for around $380 - They ain't too purdy, but can make excellent trunk guns (or any other application where you don't mind adding a new few scratches to the original factory-scratched finish). At the other extreme, you can spend several times that much on an Arsenal, Krebs custom or new-in-the-box VEPR that has flawless fit and finish. Generally, they all go bang when you pull the trigger - It's just that some of them look better than others doing it.
