There have been some cool products readily available lately, like the Beryl style rails. What are some other favorite practical items?

Krebs safety? Nevermind, found. I like that too! 65 bucks though!? lol, sorry guess I'm a cheapskate nowadays ![]() It's good sh*t though. Maybe not worth $65 but no question the safety is sweet and works well. Z The best extended safety tab can be found here for ~15 shipped: http://www.solartactical.com/product.sc?productId=25&categoryId=14 I use my trigger finger. I leave my finger on the safety while not engaging targets (in the standard fashion, where you keep your trigger finger out of the trigger guard on the side of the receiver). When a target presents itself and I have the rifle on the target, as I pull my finger down to the trigger, I disengage the safety. Once I have finished engaging targets, I can push the safety back up with my pointer finger. The whole time I can keep my right hand on the pistol grip. For ~$15 and ~30 min work, I effectively turned the worst ergonomic aspect of the AK into one of its strong points! The reason I prefer this over the blackjack or other types of safety levers is two fold. 1. You use your original safety and spend $15. The other pre-made ones cost ~$50. 2. Those pre-made ones have a notch cut out to hold the bolt open. I find this worthless and detrimental. Having a bolt hold open makes almost no sense if you can't use it to help do quicker mag changes. Those notches with a permanent hole will also allow dirt, gravel, and other crap to enter your AK while you are humping it around. You are welcome

You are welcome lol Can't argue with your suggestion, for $15 it's hard to beat. I like the Krebs because I lucked into a good deal otherwise I'd DIY my own. And I'm finally over the edge on the camo thanks to you, I'm going to get my 107UR done up. I'm debating on rattle can or taking a bit more time for a Duracoat setup which I've been thinking about getting into. As for the rattle can holding up well I don't particularly care if it looks beat up pretty quick. Pardon the mini hijack Z |

It is cheap and easy; especially if you don't care if it gets beat up a little from use. If for some reason you don't like it, you can go the Duracoat route later one. Duracoat isn't all that much better anyway. It does not stand up to the heat as well as some other finishes. If you want a super strong finish, you would probably want to go with something like GunKote. Whatever you do, make sure you post pictures after you do it. |

No hijack, as painting the rifle makes it more practical in my opinion. I would use spray paint too, it takes less prep, and is easy to touch up. The tougher finishes are OK, but are not worth it if you are going to use the rifle. |

I like my Blackjack Buffers SWIFT selector lever. I have the version with the cutout to hold lock the bolt open. Being able to manipulate the selector lever without taking your hand off the grip is a major improvement. Being able to lock the bolt open is nice for meeting safety requirements at many ranges. http://www.blackjackbuffers.com/images/SWIFTpr.jpg Nice! Too bad they don't make them as drop in parts anymore. May have to go with the Krebs after all..ulness someone knows where one might still be located. Google search yields zip.

What fun is a gun if you can't modify it? |

I was really tempted to post a pic of the free "charging handle improvement", but I will refrain. This is a tech forum after all. I will instead mention that the Tapco G2 Trigger is definitely worth the $25 or so, and now includes a free retainer plate in the package. |

I'm looking to upgrade the trigger on my SGL and that would seal the deal for me. |

I pulled out my safety and filed down the dimple a little bit, than I put grip tape on the safety, very easy to work with my hand on the grip, especially taking it off safe, which is what needs to be done fast anyway.
Also, as far as practical AK items, I say the biggest one is the XS big dot sights, as fast as a red dot sight up close, and I have no problem hitting a half size silhouette target at 200 meters with them. That and I just screwed a rail on the upper hand guard and slapped a light on it. A 2 point sling and a coat of tan spray paint are the only things II think my AK really needs. |

I'm looking to upgrade the trigger on my SGL and that would seal the deal for me. From Midway USA. It is a Tapco retainer plate packaged with the trigger. It didn't mention that it was included when ordering, but it arrived in the G2 package with a label stating that there was a free retainer plate included. Here's the link I ordered from: http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct/?productnumber=799634 |
