I know next to nothing about AK-47s other than I want one real bad.

Local want add has a Polytech, 3, 30rnd mags, and 1000 rnds of ammo (500 HP. 500 FMJ) for $850. The picture makes it look good and it looks like it has a bayonet that folds out.

My first question is this: Is this a fair price? Secondly, is this sounds too good to be true how can I tell if the AK is a fake Polytech?

If the deal is legit I'll probably make the guy an offer.

I picked up tonight and all I can say is that I'm thrilled! This thing is in even better shape than I hoped. There isn't a scratch, ding, dent, or a mark anywhere on this thing. The guy I bought it from said he bought it several years ago from a buddy that needed the money more than the rifle. He said since he's owned it he has fired maybe 60 rounds through it. The only evidence I can see that this has been fired is carbon on the piston.

I'll get some good pics posted when we get a charger for the wife's camera.

Question: Is there a way to tell if this thing really is a preban? Are the marks or any features that would identify it as such? Is there a certain serial number range?

Thanks for all the complements guys! I never get deals like this!

Here's my new baby!

Great price!! Great rifle!

That seems to be a great price.

1000 rounds of ammo would run you at least $240, some places have it for even more. 3 mags is also around a $50 value.

As for the gun, don't those guns by themselves typically run around $1000 on gunbroker?

Hell, I've seen shooters going for $1500.

I seriously doubt it's a "fake Polytech".  You should know one way or the other by reading the side of it.  It appears to be a pre-ban with Chicom spike-folder on the bottom.  These things are worth money.  Thats's a semi-auto version of the Chinese Type 56S.  You damn near can't find a more complete AK in the world and their AK's are some of the better ones on the market.  People sell the rifle alone for up to $1500 all the time.  $850 is a steal considering a thousand rounds is coming with it.  If I had the money I'd damn sure jump on it.

ask the guy who the importer is...very litle chance it is fake, and importer will tell you for sure..If it was "faked" that is a MAJOR Felony..

The fact that it has the folding spiker on the bottom tells you it's almost inevitably a pre-ban.

It says:

      KFS
 Atlanta, GA
Made in China

Stamped on the left side of the receiver just above the pistol grip.

It's my understanding that anything Chinese would be pre ban ... The US Assault rifle ban in '93  came after the Chinese  import ban in '89.  Someone correct me if I'm wrong

I've actually met the owner of "KFS" (also owns other things), nice guy. He has an impressive firearms stash but no longer sells guns (just parts, bipods etc.)

You have a semi-auto version of the chinese Type 56 AK. Only difference between yours and the military version is the F/A parts. You got a GREAT f@#king deal at $850,  as others have said those are going for around $1500 for JUST THE RIFLE !! Definately a keeper as it will only go up in value.

Thanks for the info 56type! Like I said earlier, I know pretty much zil about AKs, so any information is welcome information.

That's a very nice rifle. I would have definitely paid that price for it.

Awesome deal with the ammo. Probably 1100.00 current value for the gun alone.

Ill give you 875.00 for it right now! Send payment details! Very sweet and even more so at that price! Put a muzzle nut or slant break.
That looks like an 84S break on a .223 caliber. It would look more authentic.

While the dates are what they are, the "anything Chinese would be pre ban" part isn't.  The MAK-90's are (unfairly) considered post ban - they were "pre-ban" rifles caught in either US Customs or in-transit during importation and neutered.
