| I have some SLG21s coming (surprise) and I'm looking at how I might set some of them up eventually. If I wanted to ditch the 24x1.5 AK74 Brake for a more compact 14x1 do you think I could cut the 24mm threaded part off the FSB and thread the barrel for 14x1? Anybody ever do or see? |

Ok. Since I didn't get alot of responses here's what I found so far just by enlarging what pics I can find. Anyone that can elaborate would be greatly appreciated.
The AK74 style FSB with it's large 24mm end is not going to lend itself well to smaller accessories like a slant even if someone made it due to the huge difference in size. I did find 24mm muzzle nuts (protectors) and a 24mm to a rather long birdcage type. As far as my idea of cutting the 24mm part off and threading the barrel it would appear that the cleaning rod retention on the AK74 type is dependent on the large diameter accessories of the 24mm type. If you carefully compare the FSB to a standard AK FSB you can see the difference where the end of the rod stows. As far as replacing the FSB it looks like the AK74 type is affixed by two pins at the bottom vs. two at the top for the regular AK type FSB. I think I read somewhere that the Russian style of attachment is different. Maybe this is it. The spacing also appears as such that the rearward most pin on the AK74 type is not within the confines of what would be covered by a standard AK type FSB w 14mm threaded muzzle comb. meaning that you would have evidence of the original AK74 install always visible. That said I haven't been able to ask someone who actually knows and when mine finally get here I'll figure it out. In the mean time the AK103 look with the AK74 style Brake is growing on me all of the time. It doesn't really increase the O.A.L. that much and if it is effective at reducing recoil maybe they will stay just as they are. |

I'm in the same situation...don't care for the huge brake...would prefer the simple "slant" brake as well.
My SAIGA seems to have an adapter that allows the large 74 style brake to work. Only problem is HOW did they attach the adapter?? I hate to take a set of big channel locks to it..only to find it's silver soldered on or epoxied. UPDATE...posted the ??over on the other forum as well..........http://www.theakforum.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=936476#936476 FN in MT |
