Looking into the best tri rail for my receiver. Already have the replacement hand guard.
Any recommendations?  Do the ones that come attached to a receiver cover fit all AK
variants?

Those are junk.

OK, then what do you recommend instead?

What kind of rifle do you have? Does it have a side rail on the receiver? What kind of optic do you want to put on it? That will help us give you some better choices.

want a picatinney rail to mount both a better iron sight and maybe an Aimpoint for a longer sight radius

I have an SA85M Hungarian

Ok, what kind of iron sight are you planning on attaching?

What kind of front sight to you have?

Usually the side mounts will have the rail too high to use a rear sight properly on them.

One of the Beryl style rails will be your best alternative I think, but they aren't inexpensive.

TWS makes one I believe.

I have the stock front sight and thinking about one of the rail mount sights like the Brownells sight for the AR

Brownells has one of these rail systems for about $60 on sale.  Maybe it is Midway... no matter. Concerned with how strong they
might be or lack of strength is more of the concern

Ok, that won't work.

See how low above your current topcover the existing rear sight is? Your new sight can't be any taller than that.

You'll need to look at the various "dog leg" scope rails currently being offered like the one linked above. They have a built-in rear sight. Krebs also makes one.
