The Romanian PSL/Thumbhole style stocks are available both on new WASR etc rifles and as aftermarket parts.  Historically, was this ever a military configuration like a lighter designated marksman's rifle but lighter than an SVD or PSL?  Just interested.

I own and shoot mainly ARs but really getting back into the AK thing again. I forgot how much fun they are to shoot.

.

Not that I ever heard of.

The thumbhole stocks are a US import phenomenon with little to do with what foreign militaries issued their own troops.

I'd guess that the Romanians looked at their PSL stock and saw how easy it was to modify to a standard AK (it's really a minimal change) and decided it was cheaper to go with what they had rather than design a whole new stock to meet US import restrictions  like the Chinese did.

Gotcha....

Seemed like a neat idea but after a very short image search, I'm not really feelin' it.

I was considering a project gun using a synthetic thumbhole stock set and one of the combloc optics in something around 4x or less but I'd probably end up with something with way more money in it than the kind of accuracy I'd be going to the trouble to get.

PSLs shoot just fine.

Oh well, more money for the RPK or Draco-SBR project fund. =)

If any of you own a thumbhole variant with an optic, mind posting a pic I'd appreciate it anyway.
