I have a fixed stock Yugo from Century, and the rear sight base or gas block (not sure on the nomenclature) is pretty badly canted. The left side of the bolt carrier and piston are actually dragging against the rear sight base when the action cycles.

I know nothing about fixing AKs, but it looks like the entire rear sight base is held on by one pin. If I punch the roll pin out, can I just use a mallet to whack the rear sight block to the left a little bit, reinsert the pin, and be on my way?

The rear sight base nests in the top "ears" of the barrel trunnion. Check your rifle and you'll see that there's very little space on either side.

The gas block and front site base are aligned relative to the RSB. Sounds like your gas block might be canted to the left and is making the bolt carrier drag.

I would say that is a big problem, the barrel is pressed in like a bitch, so is the rear sight base,I dont think you will be able to move it one bit. the question is are the front sight base(fsb),gas block, and rear sight base all lined up? if so then, the barrel needs to be pressed out and reset

Well that sucks, but thank you for the response.

How would one go about getting the barrel pressed out and reset?

I would call Century and talk to them about sending it back to them. Maybe a wasted call but I'd try that. But you may have already tried that.

show us a pic real quick, it may just be the gas block....

I tried to get a couple of pictures of it, along with a picture of the damage to the piston.

As far as sending it back to Century, I already did that once... for the FSB.  Out of the box the rifle shot really far to the left.  After I ran out of room for windage adjustments, it was still shooting about 12 inches to the left at 50 yards, so I sent it back.

They took almost 4 months to get it back to me.

can we see how the piston interacts with the gas block? Maybe a pic from the mid of receiver cover looking to the front along the top? I can see in these pics that it's rubbing, I just can't see why.

ETA, get one of the bolt carrier in the receiver also

ETA2: also one of the inside of the receiver with no bolt carrier. Just in case you have a screwed up rail or something

The carrier is rubbing on the left side and it looks light the rear sight block is already touching the left side of the trunnion.  Doesnt look like any more adjustment can be made.  If you can sight it in, I'd just shoot it as is.

This is also a possibility.  The rails could be torquing the carrier to the left.

Is the gas piston installed as it was designed (loose in the carrier and secured by a rivet) or is it screwed in tight and welded?
If it's not done properly, fix that first. A slightly canted gas block, combined with an improperly installed piston can cause what you're seeing. Fixing the piston might allow enough play to stop the carrier from dragging on the fsb.

Century strikes again. Sorry, I know that is not helpful.

That's actually more helpful than the customer service folks at Century.

I'll try to get more pictures up tonight.

See how it cycles with the gas tube on.

Without it, there's no way the piston will make it inside the gasblock.

Any update on this rear sight base problem, get it fixed? I have a Romy G that is canted both rear and front sight base, so I think I need to send this one out to be fixed, any suggestions?
