This is my first build, only AK. Is the dent in the spent case normal?

If not, does the ejector need adjustment? Does this look normal?  The cases eject at about the 1:00 position about 15' away.Thanks.

yup. I believe that dent comes from hitting the dust cover when ejected.

ETA: Didn't know anyone was still shooting Chinese ammo! Been a long time since I've seen that.

Thanks!. Got a couple hundred rounds of the ammo with an SKS purchase about a year ago.

Don't worry, it's normal.  The spent casings hit the bolt carrage as they come out...watch this youtube video.

WOW! Great video. That really shows what happens.

The video shows what happens when you fire an AK without a dust cover. Notice that the cases are ejected randomly, with less than 1/2 moving towards the front. I've never seen an AK with a cover on it do that. The cases are always ejected to the right front. Why? The cases are striking the dust cover

After viewing the video, I disassembled the rifle and can see where the Bolt Carrier has a pretty good ding in it, but the Cover doesn't have a mark on it. This was a new unfired kit that I assembled and used Moly Resin to coat the Cover inside and out. Maybe the Moly Resin is stronger than I thought? I agree the cover probably makes the case fly forward, but I think the bolt carrier takes the brunt of the abuse.

After firing thousands of copper washed cases through an arsenal built chinese rifle I've never seen a mark anywhere on the carrier. I've seen copper on the cover.
After firing thousands of Russian made cartridges through a Romanian made rifle and rifles I've built on flats, I've yet to see a mark on either the carrier or the cover.
While the small dent you've shown on the fired case is normal, marking the carrier is not.
