I hear that Arsenal has finally fixed all of the problems in their SLR 106/107 series. Does anyone here have any experience with a recently manufactured SLR? Are they better...do they feed right...are they coming with canted sights? Also, In your opinion, which rifle is of better qulity...the SLR 107F/FR, SLR 107CR or their Saiga conversions, the SGL-20? I have read online of two reports of new Arsenals (one 107CR and one 107F I think) showing up with possible rust under their notoriously crappy finish. Arsenal uses new parts in their builds...right? I am considering all three of these rifles...just want to get the best one for my money. I have read that the SGL rifles have the latest AK-100 series updates and may be better...anyone have a SGL 20 that they'd like to share a review of with me? Thanks

I personally love the 107CR, my fav rifle.

Was your 107CR purchased recently? Any problems with canted sight/gas block or any other problems?

From my understanding the canted sight issue was an isolated incident. My SLR-106F is my go to, shtf rifle. It has performed flawlessly for the 1,000 rounds or so that I've put through it.

I have a 107UR and it's in perfect condition. Finish is even and smooth, no canted sight block and everything is tight and crisp.
Purchased in early 2008 during the time when most of the bitching about Arsenal was in full blast but fortunately mine was really well built.

eta: I think for the money the SLR107FR or 107CR is a better deal than the SGL20. With the 107's you get the basically the same rifle (minus the coolness of the Russian factor which is actually appealing to me) but you also get a factory installed folding stock.
Price is really going to determine which is the better deal...an $800-900 fixed stock SGL20 is probably a better deal than a $1200+ 107FR or CR imo. The deal is you can get SGL20's for $800-900 but the 107's will almost certainly be over a grand.

Yeah, I really like the folding stock on the 107's...but I'm just wondering if the SGL20 is just a better rifle. That's what I really want to know. Are the Saiga/Legion conversions better than whatever is being assembled in Bulgaria? Most of the assembly of the SGL20 is done in Russia...right? I'm wondering with all the complaints with the 106/107 rifles if the Bulgarians are not following any kind of stringent QC program. I've also read somewhere that the SGL has the latest (although minor) AK-100 series updates and that Bulgarians didn't...could be BS. One of the alleged updates had to do with the piston or bolt design...I don't remember. I guess that whatever I choose will have to be refinished right away. I'd like to use AK USA...but they probably have a long turn around time and I know ARS in Phoenix isn't taking any work right now. Does anyone have any suggestions for a refinisher that knows their way around an AK? Also, anyone else ever hear of rusty parts being found in the 107's Thanks

Hello.  First post, after lurking forever.  So new to forum use that I don't even know what happens when you respond to an "old" message like this one.  But if the OP is still reading this, I happen to own an Arsenal SGL-20 that I purchased a few months ago.  I'd be happy to answer any questions you have.

let me reiterate a tad. Having the folding stock is like power windows and locks, cruise control etc....
