Hi guys, I'm new to AK's, not sure I understand the need to own one, but I'm looking to buy one anyway. The gun in question is a "pre-ban" underfolder with a stamped receiver, a 56s-1 I think (Norinco). Beautiful shape, all original, comes with 2,000 rounds of russian non corr. ammo, 6 mags, one 75 round russian drum mag., sling, case and other little stuff. Something about a spring replacement (long spring) and its been a closet queen for the last 9 years. PLEASE, what should I pay for this? I'm not looking to make money, I just want to be able to sell it if i don't like it, I don't want to be buried in it. I'm an M1 carbine guy, with a twist of AR 15 in me. I know guns, but not these. Thanks for the education.

Offer 1200, figure it is probably worth 2000 with the accessories and ammo at todays prices.

Once you own one and shoot it, the reason will become clear since you like handy, carbine length weapons.

It's the same as the need to own a 30-room house, or a garage full of Ferraris, or a cellar full of fine wines (or concubines, if that's your thing).

The point is, you don't have to have a "need".  Assuming someone has to NEED to own it is more than a few steps down the wrong path.

I agree with that thought, no "need", just a desire. I may not like this gun, so reselling it shortly is a good possibility. It's always nice to sell something and come out even. As a rule, I buy high and sell low...I'm trying something new this time around.

Before you offer a large amount of money on it make sure it is a 56S-1 and not a 1-56S-1.  Did they even have postban rifles in PR?  Are gun laws different in a territory vs a state?

Being new to these AK's, I'm not sure what a 1-56S-1 is, but the gun clearly has 56S on it. I'll take another look though.

A 1-56S-1 would be a postban rifle that had a thumbhole stock on it but was capable of having a underfolder installed as it had an underfolder receiver.  Unscrupulous sellers will unban it and sell it as preban.  The 1 before the 56S-1 was stamped after importation and is sometimes lightly stamped.  Big difference in value.  I've seen several passed off here on the EE as preban and one guy posted on the forum a week or two ago with one, but he got it for about market value.
