I've new to the whole gun scene and have really been enjoying the past few months as a new AK-47 (WASR 10) owner.  I recently read an article about slam fires and was wondering if anybody makes a firing pin replacement that is spring loaded?  I saw where Murray's Guns sells one for the SKS.  But, I haven't found one specifically for the WASR.

I know this flies in the face of the "simple is better" philosophy, but I really would like the added comfort of knowing I won't have a slam fire.

Any ideas on where I can find such a beast?

Also, is it feasible to actually find replacement parts such as bolts, gas tubes, etc. for the AK?  I know there are a lot of variants out there and I'm not sure how generic or cross-compatible they are.

spring-loaded firing pins only prevent slamfires until the spring binds.

then the argument could be (very easily) made that the spring-loaded FP actually caused the slamfire, instead of preventing it.

all the AK's that my wife and I own, and none of them has ever slamfired.  they're all free-floating firing pins.

along with that, among the many AK owners I know and go shooting with regularly, all have free-floating firing pins, and a grand total of zero slamfires.

it's a non-issue.

AK slamfires are a result of something in the firing pin channel binding the firing pin in the foward position, a spring will not prevent this

a spring would only help in the case of intertial primer strikes sufficient to set off the primer, 7.62x39 factory ammo primers are hard enough to resist any inertial strikes because the firing pin does not have enough mass and those primers are very hard, plus the force of the firing pin  inertia would not be at it's full strength until the bolt had compeltely stopped and probably locked...

it might be possible to have a slam fire from an inertial strike if some idot reloads brass cased 7.62x39 ammo and uses a much softer pistol grade primer...

it is a not issue, there are millions of AK's out there and almost none of them have a firing pin spring and you cannot find many well documented cases of a slam fire...even then, the cause is in doubt

Non-issue.

AKs, ARs, M1s... none of have spring-loaded firing pins.
