I am interested in getting my underfolder gold plated. I know its tacky but I want something different. Does anyone know who does this? Also what would the cost be? Any ideas?

Most people will find it ugly, so it wont be "rare" as in "oooo look at that" its going to be rare as in "omg I cant believe someone ruined that".

Also the gold plating quickly loses its gleam and you cant touch it much due to this.(Even cleaning wont get all smudges off).

Most importantly I dont think you would be able to shoot it or resale it for anything near as much as you put in it.

Its up to you but I would think about it hard. Perhaps sell it and get something more rare like a PKM if your just wanting something different.

Uh, your name isn't Uday or Qusay is it? :)  Sorry, couldn't resist....  Hey if gold plated floats your boat....be prepared to hold on to it the rest of your life though.  Earl

I can't answer any of your questions but since there is so much hating on here I'll chime in and say I'd do it, hell I'd even have a nickel plated one too (maybe platinum is better ) . They would be safe queens though. More power to you for doing what you want and not listening to others

If it floats your boat, go for it. I pieced mine together from already plated items:
Maadi RPM Curly maple furniture. 100 rounder, Chinese 40 rounder

My suggestion would be to buy a can of gold paint. Spray it on. Take the rifle to the range.

If you change your mind, buy some lacquer thinner.

If you still want to gold plate it, buy the lacquer thinner and call the plating company.

I like a gold plated gun. I may have one of mine done someday. Obviously its just for looks, but if you want it go for it. Definitely be a conversation starter.

wouldn't gold plate any of my aks, but as long as your goin with the delightfully tacky approach, you should also invest in some silver bullets for it.

They'd also come in handy a SHTF situation involving werewolves.

I actually think a chrome plated AK would be pretty bad ass.

i was seriously considering it until i saw the price, and the chrome is prone to chipping.

I have a couple of chome plated pistols, and they require special handeling, so to speak.   I wipe them down, but not with oils and cleaning fluids, just a clean rag.    Both are quite old, turn of the century, and they still have about 90% of their chrome.   I think its a little more resilient than most give it credit.   I suppose an AK's action might cause more problems, as there are just more moving parts than a revolver, but I'd bet it would stand up pretty well anyway.

How much was it going to cost?

Gold SWD M11/9 SMG. Not mine. As tacky as it looks I sort of like it.  I would never shoot it though for fear of damaging the finish.

I have seen and handled a chrome plated underfolder with matching chromed magazine in Iraq.  It actually looked really bad ass.
