First one I have owned. Shot several but never had enough time to really get to know one. Overall, I like it. Very easy to strip and clean (although previous owner didn't keep it as clean as I'd prefer). Thankfully, it has a reputation for not being sensitive to much.

I haven't shot it yet but I don't anticipate many issues. However, I have a few that I would like some advice on. Thanks a bunch in advance!

Front sight post was broken when I got it. Shipping perhaps... (bought from a buddy). So, I need a new one. Found one online for like $5 but it would be nice not to pay $5 in shipping for a $5 part. He installed a mojo peep sight in the rear and it isn't the best looking job in the world. The rear set screw sits so damn high it is almost in the sight picture. Also, it is sitting off center. He said he never really had a chance to zero it after installing the sights so I have a little work to do. Hopefully, it won't take too many rounds to get it zero'd. This ammo scarcity/price shit is not conducive to blasting a few hundred while sighting a rifle with modded, poorly mounted sights! Any tips here?

Also, I bought a little mag pouch with 5 extras from S/G. I noticed they don't like to come out very easily. It takes both hands to depress the release lever. I assume the best thing to do is just file the retaining knob (?) down a few thousanths until it comes out better...? Is this correct?

Again, I don't know much about these things. I have been reading this section on and off for a few months now. Good information on here and definitely a valuable resource!  Anything I need to know? Anything you know that you wish someone would have shared when you first got your AK?

Thanks again fellas!

as far as the mag release goes try wrapping your four fingers around the front of the mag and your thumb on the release and squeezing.  If that doesnt work than yeah it is too tight.  I would change out that ugly foreend with something from iron wood designs or a polymer set.  its cool that it came with the mojo I have heard good things about them.  congrats on the purchase and check out theakforum.net

Is that a Norinco by any chance - specifically an NHM 90 or 91? If it is, you'll have trouble finding a lower handguard that will work. Norinco NHM's have a heavier barrel. Consequently, a regular AK lower handguard will not fit because the barrel receiver is thicker than a regular AK.

You can use the Leapers UTG 479 quad grip. I installed it on mine and it drops right in.

Dave at Misurpstuff.com has them and he's agood guy to deal with.

[Update: BTW - check the magazine latch and see if the "nib" has been ground off. Norinco's had a small metal nib that forced you to use a special magazine that had a slot cut out for the nib to nestle in between. Usually, all you had to do was grind off the nib and you could then insert regular mags. You may also lightly file or grind down the lip on the latch that catches on the magazine to make it smoother.]

Buy a front sight tool. TAPCO sells one as do others. Stay away from the Chinese made ones (NC Star?). The steel is too soft, and it isn't made for non-Chinese AK sights.
With the tool you may be able to zero the rifle unless the rear sight is off too far.

The front sight is the one that requires the C clamp tool for windage adjustment right? I think the front is pretty straight, the post just split vertically so I need to thread a new one in and adjust it for elevation.

The rear sight is the one that is off center..... but it looks like it is adjustable for both windage and elevation..... I need a special tool for this as well?

God forbid I buy a damn rifle with working, accurate sights! Most expensive firearm I own and it needs work before I shoot it No biggie, all my other rifles were straight right out the box. This don't look too bad to adjust, I'm just gonna have to spend some time at the firing range.
