Hey guys,
Does the AMD 63 take 30 round mags? What about the 75 round Bulgarian drums? I think i might have read somewhere that they only take the 20 round mags. I'm not sure tho. RKell |

Yes. Some 30-round mags will not go in because of the forward grip, but most steel military mags will, and depending on your particular gun, it might take them all. I've never tried a drum, but it would definately look cool. Never seen an AMD not take 30's or 75 round drums. I wouldn't think a 40 would fit, or it'd be a fit tight, never bothered to try, not too fond of 40's. |

It's hard to describe but there's two small cones inside the front retainer that make it so you have to drill two small points in the front of whatever handgaurd you want to use. Not hard, but it is a bit of modification. |

Not hard, but it is a bit of modification. Those two cones are STANDARD on FEGs with any handguard and are designed to help retain the guard. They may be standard on all AKs. Further, there is no need to remove the forward grip to use most 30-rd magazines. Individual guns vary in magwell clearances and mak have to be adjusted. BTW, there's no need to replace the handguard anyway even if the pistol grip does restrict magazine use - simply remove the pistol grip. |

It does seem to vary from rifle to rifle, even from the same mfr. When I picked my AMD up from my FFL, he told me that it would not take 30 round mags, which confused me some, as the seller had included a 30rd mag with the rifle. So we tried it, and it fit no problem. He got this perplexed look on his face and asked me to wait a minute. He pulled his AMD down from the wall and tried the 30 rd mag I had received with my rifle. It wouldn't fit. Same rifle, same manufacturer–– TGI. Go figure.
Was an AMD65, but same rifle except the stock. |
