Both are THE SAME.

Now let me add, they aren't a "COMPANY".

They are front's for the chinese government to export AK-47 type weapons.
There are various factories which produced AKs for the chinese government. Factory 66 being "popular" as a Norinco factory. Factory "386" being popular as a Polytech factory among AMERICANS.

Unmarked chinese AKs were the first into the country.
Norinco was the "normal AK".

Polytech was invented when the chinese realized we americans LOVE a "HIGHER END" line of ANYTHING and wish to pay a premium for absolutely no reason.
Polytech added chrome followers, milled receivers etc to 'available' options.

Both are 100% good to go.

Coltace is pretty much on target.
But the Polys do offer a few nice upgrades with the furniture and sights. As well as some of their mags and firing pin set up.
As he said, you can not go wrong with either.

I have seen numerous unmarked AKs with the spring loaded firing pin. All of the milled Norinco MAK 90s have it too. The chrome follower thing was just for Kengs i believe.

Of course it was for KENGS.

KENGS the importer who realized we dumb americans needed a "PREMIUM LINE" to waste $$ on.

"Polytech" was invented for KENGS.

All of it is China North Industries, a corporation owned by their government.

NORINCO, among other things, manufacturers defense and industrial products.  They're not limited to AK's or weapons although they've become an informal export arm of the People's Liberation Army and a supplier to them.

what about guns imported before Norinco.  I have heard they were just unmarked and made by the same folks to just any shop made them to order and quality varied greatly...
