| What are the pros and cons of having a Chrome barrel? |
|
While I agree that chrome-lined bores are highly desirable/preferred, I would not let the lack there of stop me from buying. Prime example being Yugos. With proper maintenance a non-lined barrel will lead a long life in the hands of the average user. I don't lose any sleep over the fact that my Yugos don't have chrome bores. I would prefer that they were chrome-lined though. It is what it is. |
| I loved my M70AB2, but I will never own another AK that doesn't have a chrome-lined bore. They rust very quickly with Russian ammo and I don't always like to clean my guns the same day I shoot them. With the chrome you have the ability to shoot all day then stick it in the safe and not be worried. |

I wish chrome lined bores were more popular with pistol manufacturers (sp). |

I've got almost 3,000 rounds of Golden Tiger/Wolf/Brown Bear/Silver Bear/Golden Bear through my Yugo M70AB2 over the course of just over a year with minimal cleaning (few passes of the brush and a few wet CLP patches now and then). My bore is still shiny and there are no signs of rust and it is humid where I live. If you shoot corrosive surplus ammunition in a rifle and put it away after shooting it will rust chromed or not. The bore and chamber might hold up for a while, but the gas port, gas block, gas tube, and portions of the receiver on the inside will be eaten up. Chromed is the way to go but it shouldn't deter people from appreciating the Yugo rifles unless you plan to re-enact what soldiers in the Balkans did by shooting corrosive Yugo ammo and virtually never cleaning the gun as seen in the dark crusty bores of the parts kits coming into the country. |
