Anyone ever heard of a manufacturer named Hesse and what their quality is?

I have a chance to pick one up for $450 w/ 5 mags. It is in good shape, but seems to be sloppy with the fitting of components. Have not had a chance to shoot it yet.

I wouldnt. Hesse has a horrible rep, save a few more dollars up and get a wasr IMO.

Hesse, Vulcan, Blackthorn are all the same company.

I have a saiga 7.62 that was converted by Hesse...other than the welded on 74 type brake the gun has never had a issue. More accurate than my sar1 and almost as my sam5.

They only converted the rifle, I have heard of AKs they built with heat treat issuies of the reciever, especially the ejector.

I would shoot a rusty, muddy Nigerian AK bought for the price of a goat before a Hesse.

At least the Nigerian gun would be Warsaw Pact made and fairly reliable.

Run, very quickly, away from any Hesse/Blackthorne/Vulcan firearm.

I had a Hesse converted Saiga that was GREAT!  I mean GRRREEEAT!!  A friend of mine needed an AK though, and I had several so I sold him it on the cheap.  Still shoot it often, great weapon.

Which proves that every once in a while even the biggest screwups do something right.

I had one of these.  The FCG components started to peen after about 180 rounds and the gun wouldn't function.  I got it back up and running by installing a Tapco G2 FCG.  I ended up trading the rifle to a friend for some electrical work and he's put at least 500 rounds through it w/o any further problems.

So ... it might be worth it to take a chance on a Hesse converted Saiga, as long as you realize it might need a bit of work.
