You can try other top covers or even possibly taking a little bit off of the front of the top cover but I wouldn't recommend that unless there's some gap at the back end of the top cover as it fits on the receiver.
It's just one of those things that happens as these are builds and not original rifles. Measurements and QC aren't quite the same sometimes. |
| That was a very common problem with OOW receivers built with 7.62 AK parts. They made a universal receiver for AK74's & 47's. It looked OK on 74's, but had a gap on 47's. What receiver is that? The selector hole is too low. No real fix. That's the 1st question I ask when buying an AK w/o photo. The gap between selector & cover. So is it an OOW or ITM receiver? GARY N4KVE |

I had the same problem with the receiver I had my AK built on. Another problem with my rifle is the top cover coming loose and getting shoved up under the rear site while firing the rifle. This is due to the fact that the receiver is too long, and if the builder isn't aware of this, and dosen't trim it to propper length, you will have this problem as well. Their holes are also out of round due to the bending process,(bending sheet metal srtetches the steel enough, that you get elongated holes near the bend, such as the trigger axis pin hole) this is why your better receivers and flats, such nodakspud, and ak-builder have the holes finnished after the bending process. I have since learned that the Ohio receiver (not to be confused with "ohio rapid fire") I used, is known for all these problems. I belive that they sell alot of these to "builders/manufactures' at a cheap price in large quantity, and that is why so many mfgs' rifles display these inferior traits.
I am planning a hack saw demill of my rifle. Then I will bend up my own receiver using my bending fixture, and a flat from ak-builder, and all the assembly will be done by me, on my toos I got from AK-builder. I now know why my dad always said, "if ya want somethin' done right, ya gotta do it yourself". Hope this helps, and I don't sound like a know it all, I just went to work and got educated! Thank's! My other builds will be done with nodakspud.com receivers, I have two on the way now. I have never used one, but I have heard only good about them, I have never heard anything negative. You get what you pay for! I have also heard from a few knowledgable folks that "elk river tool and die"( the former "Global trades" receivers) make a good receivers as well. Any input on them? Also on this inferior receiver, They are, spot heat treated, only at the axis pin hole locations. I'd think you'd get a better, more rigid receiver when completely heat treated. Though I'm not sure as to the historical accuracy of this. Did the commie bloc receivers get heat treated? Any input would be appreciated by someone knowledgable enough to enlighten us on this subject. Thanks, Kevin. |
