A Mak 90 for $500 is not bad, since the Wasr's are going for close to that & are not as nice. I am no expert on AK47'S but from what i know Mak 90's were commericaly produced in China for export. I have an 1994 unfired Mak 90  in my gun cabinet.

a mak-90 has a thumbhole stock that you will want to replace and it also has no threaded muzzle for a muzzle device.Other than that they seem good to go and yes 500 dollars is a great deal for one especially in these post-election times.

If it is in good shape I would pick one up for that price.  Mak's were cheaper but now everything is higher.  A stamped receiver is usually 1mm but the mak's have 1.5mm receivers which helps the rifle sustain more abuse.  A 1mm will definitely  work though.  Most ak's are painted black whereas the mak is blued.  I like the look but it is not as durable in my opinion.  A mak has a closed circle front sight.  And of course the thumbhole stock.  I seem to like the thumbhole ak's better;sa-93, slr-95, sa-85 and mak's.  When you go to convert it just make sure you stay compliant.

thanks guys that helps. i went and shot my TGI ak47 this morning and am very impressed, i think it as good as my bushmaster or even the colt hbar 100 yds and under withopen sights. i think i will get the mak90. I have to change that ugly[just not for me] thumb hole stock. i thought i saw a web site with stock sets for angle or striaght receivers.  thanks again

MAK90's don't have all the evil features but I have one I converted to pistol grip and I love it. Very solid gun.

yes what he said ironwood designs has every reciever in the known ak world but if you get a straight cut reciever I believe you can use any normal type of ak stock.

I believe all Norinco's are straight cut.
Double hook trigger too, I would also reccomend the tapco g2 trigger group and a shephards crook.
