A friend of mine gave me a Maadi along time ago and the barrel is not threaded. How would I go about threading it and is it even worth doing? Thanks for your input.

you could take it to a gunsmith or buy the tools and do it yourself. i dont trust myself doing it to my barrel so im going to take my SAR-1 to the smith.

is it worth it? well its only $40 and if you want a break than yeah i think it is

Some Maadis barrel threads were turned off, some still have threads, some were never threaded, some were turned off but were done OFF Center

If you have an unturned unit an AK (14-1) die and guide will work great.

If the threads were turned off center youll have to remove the front sight, cut the bad turned down portion off, recrown, rethread, reinstall the front sight, then permenantly attach some kind of muzzle device. The reason youll have to permanently attach one is because your barrel will be too short (less than 16")

If the threads were turned on center you can thread it to 1/2x28 (AR threads)

It looks as if there were never any threads put on this barrel. When you say the threads were "turned off" what does that mean? Thanks for all your help.

Turned off means they were cut down with a lathe or a file. There once was threads but twere cut down sothe threads are gone. If that is done then a smaller (1/2x28 AR15 thread) thread will have to be used instead of an AK thread (14-1 AK thread)

Anytime. Do you have a caliper? If you can measure the diameter of the barrel tip I can tell you what thread kit youll need.

If it measures .550" you can thread it 14mmx1 left hand, if it measures .500" it has had the threads turned off and you can thread it 1/2-28. I have done 3 rifles with no problems.
