[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Lettering on receiver

I know the manufacturer and importer must be stamped on the receiver along with a serial number etc..

BUT, is there anything illegal about engraing a name on the receiver.

For example. I would like to have "tom the great" or maybe " tom the loser"

engraved on one side of my receiver.

Can I legally do that?

Do you need to keep the manufacturer info on there? I always thought it was just the serial number that was important. What about serial numbers on a bolt carrier, do I need to keep them or is on the receiver good enough?
