Tried to search on this subject without success. My search-fu must be broken this morning.
I have a question for the gurus out there - has anyone tried to make one of the hideous MAK-90 thumbhole stocks more 'ergonomic' by rasping, filing, sanding, refinishing or some other method? I know it would be possible (under current regulations) to replace the thumbhole stock with a standard american made stock set, as long as I kept the number of american made parts 922 compliant, but I'm looking at making it more handy without having to worry about the 922 stuff. I'm thinking of taking the buttstock, which has plenty of meat (excess wood) and enlarging the thumbhole, thinning the grip area between the trigger guard and hole and tapering the hole at the back so the wrist has more room. Also, the wood stands 'proud' around the receiver by almost 1/8", so it could be thinned at that point also. Anyone else have some ideas, or can point me toward someone who's been down this trail before? TIA. - Tristan |
