I'm currently shopping for my first AK. I kow I want a 7.62 round as well as a 74 style brake and AK-74 style folding stock.

The only rifles that are really in my price range are like the Century "Certified" rifles that HDI sells.

If I was to buy one of those, could I buy a 74 style stock and install it myself?

I know NOTHING about this platform so I will try to get all of the stupid questions out of the way now.

If not an HDI, I am looking at Yugo underfolders. Same thing; can I use a 74 style folder on that receiver as well?

Thanks

Probably not unless you've got a some metalworking under your belt, some AK riveting tool, and the wherewithal to completely disassemble your current receiver, drill and grind some holes in it, and re-rivet it.

It's an involved process.

There is a Krinkov style folder that fits into a standard AKM (stamped) receiver so you could do a side folder for about $150 from KVAR
