ok, as i understand it the SAR1 barrels are pretty thin at the muzzle, but that threading it for the same AR15 pitch is doable.

what options would that leave me with as far as flash hiders go? i know there is an adapter that i could use a slant  break on. any other good options? has anybody else done this?

On my SAR1, the muzzle was large enough to thread it 14x1 L.H.

I've threaded 2 sar-1s 14x1LH, and I've never heard of one that didn't. The sar-2 and sar-3 would be AR threads, or a romanian 22mm FSB.

I just checked the muzzle on my 1999 SAR 1 it measures .5525 will this work?

I just did one 1/2 28 for a guy but it was a SAR-2

Yes it will work. .5525 in. = 14.0335 mm

 To get the metric conversion for in. you multiply by 25.4 and get mm.

 The SAR-1 barrels that I have encountered were simply not threaded at the factory. They weren't threaded and then had the threads ground off like the MAK-90, you should have enough material at the muzzle to thread it 14-1 LH as was originally intended.

Threaded one a couple of years ago to the AK 14x1 left. You should be good to go either way.

There used to be a member here that had a 14mmx1 LH die that he would
let guys rent.

Anybody remember who that was, or do any of you guys have a hand tapping kit that I
could rent or borrow.

I have an SAR-1 that needs to be threaded for a slant brake.

Can you do it without removing the front sight block?

Yes.
