I agree, if  you buy or have extra parts lying around, you can cut and weld  your own for next to nothing.

Quality work costs money. From my experience most AK owners are very budget minded with accessories/mods. The price is high but this isn't something a majority of home gunsmiths can accomplish with good results. Not everyone owns a welder and unless someone had welding skills the weld will be weak, look like crap or they will overheat the Carrier and warp it causing issues. The charging handle position is more of a training issue than anything else, but this is a well executed mod. I have seen 2 of these jobs close up and they do great work.
