Yeah, It finally arrived.

First thing I notice is the muzzle brake seems quite a bit canted.  Is this normal?

Supposed to be like that.

thanks.

It's more of a compensator than a brake. It's turned like that to counteract the tenancy for AKs to rise up and to the right when firing FA.

No way! That thing is totally screwed. Just send it to me so you don't get hurt.

Is that cleaning kit they provided standard for cleaning these type of rifles?  No cleaning rod?  Just use it like a boresnake?

So was mine missing the cleaning rod that goes under the barrel?

Yours in the photo is missing the cleaning rod.  Common for those to be without as many of the kits were missing them.

I am going to have to assess a 15 yard penalty for posting a picture of an AK without a magazine in the rifle.
15 yards and loss of down.

Congratulations on your first (but not your last) AK!

That is called a Slant Break.  You position it to counter-act the effect of the tumbling bullet.  After you fire your rifle and figure out which way the bullet tumbles, you can adjust the break accordingly.

Good luck!

I hope so as well, cause that is some funny stuff right there! Those 2 sentences alone contain more silliness than a 20 page GD thread. Amazing!

When used in conjuction with the bullet power adjuster on the top of the gun, you can tune the rifle to give excellent accuracy and devastating power out to 2000 yards.

Go ahead and get the cleaning rod - the rifle looks naked without it - but don't actually use crappy military cleaning kits with big jointed steel rods if you can avoid it.

I would never joke about how to use a Break.

Of course it's not a joke.
After my lunch brake, I will figure out how to use this slant break in conjunction with bullet power adjuster to get proper tumbling of the bullet all the way to 2,000 yards.

2,000 yards? That would definately brake a record.

What type?  I have a 74 style break I'm not going to use...and it's only slightly canted.
