I have just purchased 2 muzzle nuts and a FSC47. I want the FSC47 on my tantal w/o modifing the tantal. If i had a professional weld the nuts and FSC47 together perfectly, would i obtain the benefits of the FSC47 Opinions/suggestions? thx rube |

. dpharms.com/2-inch-barrel-extention-p-36.html I think that I would have something like this made, or get one of these and mod it to fit. The extra length might look a little weird at first, but certainly no worse than many other brakes. Yes, you might be able to weld the nuts to the back of the brake lengthening it enough to fit on your Tantal. Alignment might be a problem when welding, but even I have a couple ideas on that. As to retaining the benefits of the brake with these mods... I simply don't know. My gut says it should work. Why not call the maker and ask for recommendations? Who knows, he might even be able to build you a longer one to fit the thread placement on the Tantal. Good luck. |

Do you know a good machinist? I may be possible to turn the knurling off the muzzle nut, then bore the threaded end of the brake so that the turned down nut can be pressed into the end of it. Never done this with a muzzle brake, but used to repair machine parts with this method a lot. With a press fit that's tight enough, it probably ain't gonna go anywhere. |
Jewelry can be had cheap ![]()
Just my thoughts An interference fit works for alot of things, but there are 2 reasons why it is not the best choice for this aplication. Large dynamic of temperature and a hammering effect. At the very least I would bevel the OD/ID of the fit pieces and run a mild steel weld on the face then trun the weld down. You could probably peen the partsafter the fit was made, could be an option also, a bit easier than the weld aproach. |
I think you are missing the point of why he wants to put the nut on the end of the muzzle device. The deal is that there is about 1.5 inch of barrel in front of the front sight base on a Tantal. The first approx 7/8 from the muzzle is unthreaded, then the barrel slightly steps and the barrel threaded the rest of the way to the FSB. It makes it much easier to line up the threads while installing a muzzle device. But it also means that a standard AK muzzle device won't work as designed as the muzzle is about 3/4 inch from where it is on a standard AK. The part of the barrel in front of the FSB is that much longer. It sticks right through shorter devices and others "bottom out" before they are on far enough to latch at the FSB. The only ways around this if you want to use an aftermarket muzzle device are to cut the barrel shorter, put an extension on the muzzle device or barrel, or use a device that is designed to fit on a Tantal barrel. It's just one of those little differences that keep us AK owners on our toes when buying accessories. ![]() |
