Looking for help installing this type of Romanian side folder on my son's Norinco stamped AK.  I haven't found any instructions anywhere.  It will fit on the thicker Chinese receiver, but I just can't figure out the placement of the spring and how the lever is held in place. ??.  It has 1 installation screw only.

Any links or photos or advice would be most appreciated from anyone.

Cheers,
Hal

That looks like an East German side folder, not Romanian.  Romanian side folders install using the same trunnion as a fixed wood stock.  You just unscrew the wood, remove the wood, insert Romy side folder, and then screw it down.

From what I understand (not 100% sure though), the East German side folder you have requires a special rear trunnion to install into.

That's possible.  I got this from Global trades years ago.  They listed it as Romanian, but I suspect it is E. German.  Everything fits in the rear of the receiver, the tang is a little off.  It has only 1 attachment screw.

I had one of those years ago and will try and explain how it works to the best of my memory.  First, it is an E.German stock.  The lever goes through the locking block at the rear and the notch on the end fits over the pin on the sheet metal part that attaches to the main block.  The spring hooks fit in the tabs at the edge of the sheet metal part.  You then flip the spring back into the U-Shaped sheet metal.  It has to go under the pin and end up with the closed end of the spring on top of the lever.  You have to remove the pin to get this done and you will need three hands and a good dictionary filled with curse words if I remember correctly. Again, it has been some time since I owned that stock, but I do remember it was a quality part.  I hope this gets you started.

Thanks ACR !, I'll give it a try.  I understand about the 3 hands and cursing, I have been there.

I appreciate it and will report back.

Oh well,  the lever snapped in half like butter  I think I would have prefered to install a push button Romy on there for him anyway.

Time to go to full wood stock.

Why don't you ship it to me and I will weld up the lever, put everything together and ship it back to you on my dime.  IM me for my address.
