Would someone please explain the proper procedure for testing muzzle wear by doing the bullet test on a ak-47 barrel? thanks

The bullet test is a very unscientific generalized test of a rifle's barrel/muzzle wear.  It can vary greatly by different manufacturers of ammo, FMJ, HP, SP, etc.  Take it with a grain of salt.

However, all you do is point the muzzle up and put a cartridge (bullet first) into the muzzle.  The farther down the bullet goes, the more "shot out" a barrel supposedly is.

The only way it is really meaningful is if you are using bullets of a known diameter... which would mean using a pulled, measured bullet for the test.  About all it'll tell you is whether or not the bullet will engage the rifling.

As you can see the barrel on the left has seen about 30-40,000 rounds while the barrel on the right is easily over 60,000 rounds. Though both might appear "good", the bullet test shows otherwise. These two have served well but alas would make excellent tent stakes or conversation pieces.

How can a Yugo non chrome lined barrel pass the bullet test with 30k-40k rounds through it?

Its not uncommon to hear that an AK with chrome lined barrel will only survive between 30k-40k rounds. I also have a AKM with chrome lined barrel and I can see 3mm of chrome wear at the beginning of the rifling (just past the chamber) with only 4k rounds through the gun (gun wasn't abused, nor rapid fired).

So from what I understand it will take about 20k rounds to completely wear down non chrome lined barrel on Yugos

Sorry guys , and I was thinking to my self, why doesn't it make sense? I shouldn't be so serious at work.
