AKMs shot today:    Vector and 2 WASR-10s
Ammunition:          Wolf and Barnaul FMJ
Target Range:        50 yards

I started the day by taking my Recoil Buffers out.  I placed a piece of tape on the rear trunnion of each rifle. I started with the Wolf ammo on all rifles.

I have a picture of my Vector with a round in the chamber that has a clean piece of tape on the rear trunnion.

I shot each rifle one time and checked each piece of tape.  The tape showed an indented black mark for all rifles.  Picture displays the tape after 30 rounds

The Rear trunnion did not have any mark before taking the buffer off (after 60rds)

Pix of my Vector

Standing shooting 30rds in less than 90 seconds

Mini-30 tapco'ed

I know my little test was not perfect, but i came to this conclusion
1. Each of the rifles' tested bolt/Carrier hit the real trunnion when shot very often.
2. Wear on the Vector's trunnion began to show
3. Less recoil was received when shooting the Vector.

Just my opinion, but the wear on the rear trunnion is worth keeping a buffer on her.  I am not worried about damaging my rifle, but a r buffer wont hurt.
The WASRs wont get that treatment, unless someone gave me one.

Timely posting on the "tape test".

Glad you had a fun time at the range.  Wish I had done the same thing today...

Is it my eyes, or are the pictures of the inside of the rifle blurred?

ETA: Did the Vector come with a buffer?

Is that the rifle with no matching parts?

My camera is not the best, but its obvious that the tape was hit.  I didnt take pictures of the WASRs either....

Really does it matter  There is indisputable evidence that the bolt and bolt carrier hit the rear trunnion multiple times during regular shooting.

No, the Vector didnt come with a buffer, but i installed the buffer before i shot it.

Yes that Vector does not have matching parts.

The 2 WASRs have matching parts......

So tell me ya'll, what rifle would be VALID for this type of test  I can get my hands on other AKs.....

Oh yeah, i did shoot my wild ass WASR with the bolt issues.  All of the hit primers were not deeper than the other rifles.  But i will say after a few hundred rounds, finding a 30ft launched shell was sorta difficult.

Do you think that had something to do with my advice to shoot one cartridge at a time and examine the primer?

Well, it was that, ... and the fact that if the primers showed signs of piercing you should have stopped.

Swapping bolts without regard to headspace, shooting that WASR without examining the primers, it's time to buy a lottery ticket. Or something.

Lottery Ticket, i was just thinking about doing that this weekend.

I did take your advice about the primers and checked the 1st 15 or so, before finishing off the last 15.
We shot a good bit for poor folks

I'm sure your rifle is valid enough for the testing.....I have 6 AKs and all of them show evidence of bolt carrier/stock block impact although Poly will swear ALL my recoil springs are bad or ALL of my rifles were built incorrctly LOL.....

I seriously doubt your rifle would shoot itself to pieces or anything but having the buffer in there doesn't hurt

I too will perform the tape test on a brand new AES-10B RPK when I can get to the range. To satisfy my own curiousity as well as Poly's arguement that the bolt carrier doesn't impact the rear stock block... And yes ALL the numbers match on the AES-10B.

Cool

The Vector is pretty new and both WASR have all springs replaced a month ago.  I saw Dieter's AES-10B, pretty damn sweet.  Can't wait to see yours in action.

By next week i should have a Tantal, hopefully and will take a few before and after pix.

I can say that i noticed a difference using the buffer in the Vector, but not the WASRs.  Recoil was lighter and less abuse to the shells ejecting in the Vector.

The black box wolf shot dirty and inconsistant compared to the barnaul.

The next time i have a fun test i'll try to use a friend's video camera.
