Thinking of getting one. Anyone have any experience with these rifles, if so what do you think?

POS to be avoided, along with any other STG.  Too many feed problems on the .223, in additional to the other problems of the entire STG line of rifles.

I consider my STG2000 unsafe and will not shoot it.

I bought one back in Feb from Atlantic along with a 5.45 rifle. It is my most accurate rifle. I guess i got lucky but its fine in all aspects. The sight radius is shortend somewhat but the rear notch is opend up a bit which i find makes the crappy notch sights faster and easier to use. Actually i was at walmart yesterday and in a magazine called somethin like gun buyers guide/digest or whatever they had a review of the .223 STG and it was well recieved. Google STG .223 rifle reviews and youll find that the rifle has had some good reviews. I really like mine. Oh yeah the stock is good to go as well.

They're essentially WASRs changed up (with cheap furniture) for people who don't think an AK is cool enough.

Expect potential WASR problems. An inspection before you buy will eliminate 90% of potential problems (if you know what to look for, that is) and is a must (as with pretty much all AKs now).

While the receiver may be a WASR type, they aren't dressed up to look cool, they are a replica of the East German STG940  "Weiger" AK that was being produced for export shortly before the wall was torn down. All the German .223 AK mags on the market are surplus from the short lived production of the rifle.  After reunification, the Weiger went the way of the buffalo.

Oh, I'm aware that they're based on the "Weiger" rifle.

But I really doubt IO decided to start making these guys because they thought there was a big fan base for an obscure East German prototype.

That said, I do think the shape of the furniture is more comfortable than standard AK furniture (the handgaurds).

Always know where your rounds will impact and do so safely.  The STG does not meet this most basic criteria and is unsafe.  At least in the case of my POS STG-2000.

We had a customer bring one in last Friday. The finish looked much better than the WASR's we have in stock but the magazine well was opened almost to the edge of the receiver. It didn't have any magazine dimples either.

The customer brought it so we could adjust the sights because he said he couldn't anything with it. We took it in the back and put a laser boresight to it. At 50 feet, it was FAR to the left and high. We pushed the sight post over and lowered it for him. When I brought the gun back out he looked at the front sight and was confused. He said that's what his rifle looked like when he got it so he centered it. I explained to him that the rifle was centered at the factory and that's how far out of spec it was. The front sight post was drifted ALL the way over but it was sighted in.

He seemed disappointed about it but I let him know that it shouldn't give him any problems other than bothering him when he is looking down range and seeing how far it had to be drifted to be "centered".

thanks,
Ron

Other than not being able to feed from ProMags, I really haven't had any issues with mine.
