for anyone who knows Michigan laws. I do believe they are legal IF you take the underfolder to a police station and have it registered as a pistol and is in the 26" to 30" neighborhood am I right? I don't wanna invest in a gun I am not supposed to have in my possession. lol

That's what I understand, but not having to do so in Indiana when I bought my Vector UF I can't swear to it.  My bro, who lives in MI has been interested in AKs, and especially UFs, has prompted me to keep an eye on what the laws are.

AK underfolders seem to average around 26", give or take a bit, and apparently that requires registration as a pistol.  I've not seen anyone say anything about not being able to possess them, however.  I would strongly advise checking with your local PD / SD / MSP to see if there are any local laws that would prevent purchase / possession.

If it's under 26", it will be confiscated when you return to your local PD for the required inspection/registration as part of the pistol purchase permit process, so make sure it exceeds that length. I just talked to a guy at my local gun shop who had it happen to him. He had to get his Class III FFL guy to go to the copshop to get the rifle to return to the retailer.

If it's between 26" and 30", you simply need the purchase permit and there should be no problem.

I don't know if it varies by community but they're free where I live. They might be free state-wide by law, I'm not sure. Also, keep in mind that while MI is a "shall issue" state with regards to such things, your community may be like mine and impose their own bogus day or three "waiting period" by telling you their police department is extremely busy and doesn't have an officer available 24/7 to deal with such things, blah, blah, blah so the day you visit and fill out the paperwork you may be told it'll take a couple days before you can come pick up the actual permit. It pissed me off when I moved to where I live now and they pulled that crap.
