I really need some advice. Here goes.

Last week I purchased a Romanian GP WASR-10.  It was being sold as "new"(fresh from the factory).  But when I got home I realized the Bayonet Lug was ground off and a nut was welded over the threads(no flash suppressor).

The store had another WASR-10.  This one had the supressor and the lug, but was used.  It was $50 cheaper.

So my question is, did I make a bad choice?  Would it be wise of me to see if I could trade my "new" gun straight up for the used one that hasn't been neutered?

Also, if I were to modify my lug, would I be able to put a bayonet on it?  Or do you need to supressor on for support for the bayonet?

You may want to take it back as it's one of the left over guns from the AWB. It would probaly cost you more to de-ban it, unless you do the work yourself. If it's a regular AK muzzle nut on the barrel and not that one that looks more like a spool for thread that they had bee putting on them, then all you should have to do is restore the bayo. lug and you'd be able to have the bayonet.

This is what it looks like

If thats what I have should I just be to cut the weld and remove it and there should be thread under it?

If thats that case I would just as soon keep the one I have, because who knows what has been done to the used gun.

But as for the bayonet lug.  Are those pretty easily built up?  And will the bayonet fit with just the nut on the barrel?

There is nothing wrong with a welded muzzle nut and a ground bayonet lug. All you need to be concerned about is whether it's a good shooter or not IMHO.

That's an original muzzle nut except for the hole to blind pin or weld it to the muzzle. A bayonet should fit over it no prob. Have a competent welder build up a little material on each side of the bayo. lug, then file it to the correct shape and touch it up with some cold blue.

First things first:  Will youw rifle accept a 30rd mag?  If not... take it back and get a "real" one.

I would get what you WANT.  If you wanted the bayonet lug and if you wanted a flah hider, then go back and buy what you WANT.    It does make a difference, IMO.  If you are not happy and just settled for what ever you got... you are not being true to what you wanted in the first place.

The bayonet won't lock onto the gun with out the bayo. lug being the correct shape. The lug is where the locking mechanism for the bayonet latches. It will fit, just not stay

So I cut the weld on the nut.  And I have perfect threads underneath it :D .

So now all I should have to do is have my dad weld the lug and get it the right shape and I shoul be good to go, right?
