Sometimes on my wasr I duh huh and let the side of the mag near the trigger in first. After that it's all jammed and a nightmare to get back out. Is that how all AKs are, or is my gun funky?

Not a dumb question.

You just need to make sure you really get the front mag lip up into the mag well so it catches the front trunnion BEFORE you swing the rear tang up into the mag catch.

Real simple.  Take your time and practice and practice.  Do it 30 times a day for a month.  You'll be able to do it in your sleep.

Report back in 30 days and let us know how quick and easy it is to switch out mags in your AK.

Your gun is not funky, they will do that if you don't catch the front first.

Never had a problem, but I have always worried about that.  Now I know to make sure, thanks for the heads up.

Are you used to an AR?  Sometimes people who get used to one system have a difficult time making the adjustment to a totally different firearm.

P.S. Not a dumb question at all, and if someone says they've never done it either they are lying or they don't shoot enough.  So don't feel bad.  And yes its all AKs, not just yours.

Good advice on the practice, it will help to speed up your mag changes. If your reciever normally locks the mags up good and tight, it just makes it that much worse when you "rear end" it the wrong way. The practice routine really does make it alot easier, and you can identify the mags you have that fit tighter than others if your sitting on a pile of them.
