I want to buy and convert a 12 to a pistol grip combo. Can I use the TAPCO G2 internals or is there something diffrent I need. How many have converted theirs at home and was it difficult? Thanks for any input.

You may want to try saiga12.com

Its pretty easy.  I've done a couple of conversions.

Yes, you can use a tapco g2 trigger group.

You'll need a drill press and a good set of bits, a set of punches, a dremel tool, and some hand files.

Just be sure to support everything with scrap wood or something before you go hammering out those old rivets.  And be careful not to crush your receiver in the vise.

If you use the directions over at cross-conn, do NOT drill out those two extra rivet holes in order to fill em with binding posts.  Instead, take 4 short, 5/32 rivets and rivet em into the holes.  Toss the fcg retaining wire and use e-clips or a hitch pin to retain the fcg pins, instead.

If you're unsure about riveting, find a local aircraft mechanic to do it for you.  But you can buy an air chisel for like 20 bucks from harbor freight and the correct rivet set from ustool for like $7.  piece of scrap steel to use as a bucking bar should be free.

Oh yeah, you'll need a grinding wheel, too.  The saiga-12 has a short rail where the cross support would go on a normal ak.  This interferes with that short little spur at the base of the AK hammer, so you'll need to grind it off.  Or you can use the original hammer, whatever.  Its not a hard mod to do.  Actually, the grinding wheel is just a convenience.  You could do it with a hand file or a dremel tool, but a grinding wheel is faster and will probably give you better results.

Feel free to im me if you get stuck.  I don't have a team membership so I can't use "my active topics" to check back here.
