Tested some different muzzle devices on my SLR106FR last weekend. I used a PK-23 for sighting. The PK-23 was (previously) zeroed at 50 yards and wasn't adjusted for 100 yard range.

From left to right the targets were shot with: flashhider, thread protector, and AK-74 brake. The far right target was shot with a different rifle and doesn't count. BSW

All 3 targets:

flashhider:

thread protector:

AK-74 brake:

Were you shooting slow fire or rapid fire?

I was slow firing off sandbags for accuracy. BSW

I hope those sqaures aren't 1"!!!!

Interesting to see that the flash hider is substantially less accurate than the break, and that the '74 break and plain muzzle produce about the same group, though the plain muzzle did produce that tight cluster in the upper left hand area.

Yep, 1" squares. The rifle is barreled 1/7 and dosn't like 55gr ammo. I'm getting ready to correct that (new ammo) shortly. BSW

Cuz that would mean those are some big honkin' 50-yard groups...

My advice to the OP is to sell his -106 and buy another rifle like the one that shot the group on the far right.

PK-23 was zeroed at 50 yards. Groups were shot at 100. BSW

I'd repeat the test at least on another day....   Then I'd repeat the test standing w/ IPSC cardboard targets at 25 yds, shooting double taps...

I predict the 74 brake will be your favorite

that rifling twist rate likes heavier bullets, doesn't it?  Try 62 grain or heavier...

Those groups are still better than my Mini-14 did!

What kind of flashhider?

Wow!, those "groups" are horrible - all of them.  When fired from a sandbag rest, like you did, my AR shoots sub-MOA with iron sights.  Even my totally shot-out Garand does better than that.

What the heck is wrong with that rifle?

The regular 24mm PKM flashider.
