Hi all..... new to this and please don't flame me for not looking on previous posts! holderI have spent SEVERAL days on the various forums conducting "research" and with the elections coming up for our country I figured it may very well be now or frickin' never to do this. I have decided that I have around $600 to spend on this venture and here is what I've come up with. Leaning towards the Vector right now. www.atlanticfirearms.com/programming/expand.asp?Prodid=462 www.atlanticfirearms.com/programming/expand.asp?Prodid=9 www.atlanticfirearms.com/programming/expand.asp?Prodid=233 And for Mags... these Hungarian ones: www.copesdist.com/images/hungarian%20Mags.jpg Am I heading in the right direction with all of this? Much thanks in advance for your help/replies. JP |

BTW..... any info on the wood vs poly furniture would be welcome too. I Love the "traditional" look of the wood.... but if the poly has something to offer way better please let me know. If I do this I'll be ordering 1K rounds of Wolf right away also. Funny.... thought of doing this a year or so ago... remember the price on ammo then foks? 1,000 rounds of Wolf for about $100! Arrrrrg....... if WE would have only known then what we know now! One more quickie question..... 1mm vs 1.6mm vs milled. Probably not go with the milled but is there a HUGE difference between the 1mm and 1.6mm? Thanks. JP |

I'd go with the Vector and its 5 year warranty over Lancaster and its lifetime warranty just because Vector has been around and Lancaster I don't see being here a "lifetime". I think you get a better value with the Vector wood which isn't Romanian. Is the Vector built on a Global Trades receiver or an NDS. Picture shows a Global but are they still using them? Global Trades no longer makes receivers so I would rather go with a company I know was going to use an NDS receiver. 1.6mm receiver is not needed IMO. If it was me in the current market, I would search for a good used rifle- MAK-90, SAR-1, SA-85M. Deals are out there and the work needed to unban them is relatively easy. |

You're definitely going in the right direction! Any one of the rifles you are interested in will serve you well. If it were me, I'd go with the Lancaster in "Russian Red." To me, it's more authentic to an actual AKM, given the fact they are built using Romanian "G" kits. Another advantage of the Lancaster is the chrome-lined barrel. I also like the fact that Lancaster applies a Gun Kote finish on their rifles vs. Vector, which has the "greyish" parkerized finish only. Good Luck with your purchase! Atlantic Firearms is good people. Bud |
